Southeast Asia is ready to receive tourists: If you have been dreaming of a trip to Southeast Asia, then maybe in the summer of 2022 this will finally happen. More than half of the countries in the region, blessed with mild climates and dreamy coastlines, have eased their Covid travel restrictions in recent months.

If relaxing on a Thai beach, diving in the Philippines, or exploring the magnificent wildlife of Borneo are your priorities, then this material is for you.

Cambodia

Angkor Wat, the “city of temples” in northern Cambodia, is one of the greatest cultural wonders of the world. It has hardly been used since the twelfth century, and the most striking views are from the huge trees – strangler figs and banyans – that have outgrown the monumental buildings.

The best time of year to travel is from November to April to catch clear blue skies.

Visitors to Cambodia require a visa, which can be obtained prior to arrival. The country has now reinstated the visa-on-arrival program.

Indonesia

Bali’s beaches are a dream of self-isolation if you still want to avoid the crowds. However, the jungle-covered city of Ubud must be visited at least once in a lifetime.

In Borneo (a large Indonesian part is called Kalimantan) you can walk past swinging orangutans.

The best time of the year to travel is during the off-season from May to June and September. It is calmer than from July to August and still boasts wonderful dry weather.

Travel Restrictions: The rules for entering Indonesia remain quite strict and vary depending on the type of tourist visa you are applying for. A breakdown by visa type can be found on the Indonesian Immigration website.

The best time of the year to travel is the dry season from November to April. The narrower window from December to February is recommended for exploring more remote areas in cooler climates.

Travel Restrictions: Vaccinated visitors are welcome in the Philippines provided they can present a negative Covid test upon arrival. This must be a PCR test taken 48 hours before departure or an antigen test at least 24 hours before the first leg of your journey.

Singapore

The city will take you by the bustle of its streets and striking architecture. Here is an incredible combination of nature and high-altitude life. Even Changi Airport itself is a treat, with a lovely butterfly garden.

The best time of the year to travel is June-July, which is high season, but it’s a great place to travel all year round. No matter what the weather is like in one of Singapore’s many incredible restaurants.

Travel Restrictions: The rules for Singapore are still quite complicated. The country has a Vaccinated Travel Strip (VTL) scheme. Fully vaccinated individuals arriving from these countries, including the UK and the EU, should not be quarantined if they test negative before and after departure.

Thailand

Known for tropical beaches, golden temples, delicious food, and colorful parties.

The best time of the year to travel from November to March is the peak time to travel, while the off-season from April to June and September to October also attracts travelers with its hot climate and quieter shores.

Travel Restrictions: Fully vaccinated travelers can apply to enter Thailand through the Thai Pass, Test and Go and Sandbox schemes (allowing travel to certain areas without quarantine).

Vietnam

Known for the hills and terraced fields of Sapa, all the way to the limestone islands of Halong Bay. The cities of Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, and the charming lantern city of Hoi An.

The best time of the year to travel is from May to August, according to an Audley Travel expert. November to April are the driest months.
