Which country’s passport is the most comfortable for traveling in 2022?: There are 227 different tourist destinations in the world that require a passport to cross their borders. The passport of no country in the world can guarantee visa-free access to all countries, but growing global mobility allows some to come very close to this. No wonder more people are applying for dual citizenship today than ever before.

The Henley Passport Index experts conducted a study to determine which country’s passport allows you to travel more comfortably.

The index uses information from the International Air Transport Association (IATA) to calculate how many destinations are available to holders of 199 passports from around the world. This is defined as destinations that allow either visa-free entry or visa-on-arrival rather than the longer, more complicated process.

As countries start to reopen, holiday sales are skyrocketing. But which country’s passport is the key to as many travel options as possible?

Here are the TOP of the best passports of different countries for 2022.

  • 5th place: Ireland and Portugal (187 countries)
  • 4th place: Sweden, the Netherlands, France, Denmark, and Austria (188 countries)
  • 3rd place: Spain, Luxembourg, Italy, and Finland (189 countries)
  • 2nd place: South Korea and Germany (190 countries)
  • 1st place: Japan and Singapore (192 countries)

UK and US passports are completely absent from the top spot, proving that they are not half as powerful as they were once thought.

They are in 6th place along with Switzerland, Norway, New Zealand, and Belgium, tumbling down as they were both tops of the list back in 2014. There is no definite reason why, but it may be a consequence of the adoption of increasingly anti-immigration sentiment on the part of their governments.

This means that various European destinations have strengthened their position compared to the UK and the US.

Many Asian countries have skyrocketed in the index since its inception in 2006. Japan maintaining its position as the world’s strongest passport reflects how it has thrived thanks to globalization.

Those who have not been successful include Syria, Afghanistan, and Iraq, whose passports allow entry to fewer than 30 destinations.
