Times Square, nicknamed “the crossroads of the world”, is the most well-known square in New York and also the heart of the city. In 1904 it received its name from the New York Times, which moved its headquarters here.
The square becomes the center of attention on New Year, as it has been a tradition to celebrate it here since 1903, and the ABC program called Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve broadcasts it live.
The highlight of the celebration is when the famous huge ball descends as the last seconds of the year pass, a tradition that began in 1907. When the ball reaches the bottom, the New Year begins.
