Chadar Trek: For a few years now, adventure seekers from across the world have been talking about the Chadar Trek in the Zanskar region. Till this year, hundreds of people have experienced the thrill and the mesmerizing views hidden around the frozen river Chadar. The river trek starts from Chilling where the river starts freezing and most travelers choose February as the best time to cross the frozen river as the ice sheets will be comparatively stable. The river is completely surrounded by steep cliffs that are up to 600 meters high. The Zanskar River is a tributary of the Indus and is 5 meters long.

To complete the Chadar Trek, a trekker has to cover a distance of 16 km per day. Generally, people opt for a trek of 10-15 days depending on the climatic conditions here. The lowest temperature in Chadar during winters will come down to -35 degrees Celsius and thus Chadar trek becomes more intimidating. The approximate trekking distance is 75 km in total.

Maximum Altitude: 11123 ft is the altitude at which Chadar Trek will take you.

Location: To participate in the Chadar Trek, one must reach Leh the journey starts from Leh, and in the frozen state the Zanskar river starts till Chilling. It will take around 65-70 km to reach Tilad via Chilling, the base camp of the trek from Leh.

Best time to visit: Late January to February is the best time to trek in the frozen river of Chadar. Quality and safe trekking gear and extremely warm clothing are required.
