Ajay Bisaria, India’s High Commissioner to Ottawa, said, “This is a welcome step towards restoring normalcy and ending the regime that discriminates against India’s travellers.”
Canada updated its travel advisory for India on Thursday by removing the requirements for passengers to obtain negative RT-PCR results for tests conducted within 18 hours of flight departure from a single laboratory at Delhi airport operated by company Genstrings. Did. This was applicable to direct flights being operated between the two countries.
Canada also required that passengers taking a connecting flight from India take the test in a third country which was the port of departure for the Canadian destination.
Both of these requirements have been removed. These revised measures went into effect on Friday as Transport Canada announced it was waiving “revised pre-departure testing requirements” for passengers to and from India on direct or indirect flights. “All passengers entering Canada are now subject to the same pre-entry testing requirements regardless of their country of departure,” the department said in a release.
India’s High Commission has been working with Canadian authorities over the past few months to normalize air travel, especially after Ottawa banned all direct flights in April to India in the wake of the Delta-operated pandemic escalation. That ban was lifted in September but replaced with a tougher testing regime, which only applied to one other country, Morocco.
Canada to “require that all passengers, unless specifically exempt, have a valid negative pre-departure COVID-19 molecular test result not taken more than 72 hours from a scheduled flight to Canada Is”.
Travelers are required to provide proof of being fully vaccinated and, upon arrival in Canada, some may be subjected to a random COVID-19 test.
